Since buying my Lexus in February I feel as though I almost never put gas in it. Naturally, I decided to start saving my receipts.
For starters, it has a pretty good sized tank - by far the largest in any car I’ve owned at 18.7 gallons. Figuring conservatively at 20mpg mixed driving, that’s a range of 374 miles, which is about bang on what the computer always provides as range (usually starts at 38x, depending on mood). My commute is also pretty short, only about 10 miles each way.
Going back to the receipts, since the beginning of July, I’ve put gas in the car three times - July 1, July 18 and yesterday, August 8. Two full tanks essentially got me through 5.5 weeks.
The realization? I don’t drive much at all anymore, and that sort of gives me a sad.

This is now a tank measuring contest thread

I’ve got the 36.

I drive maybe 3-5k miles a year outside of work and it does depress me.

It’s not how big your tank is, it’s how you stretch it, amirite?

I bought the GS with something like 112k on the clock in February. It has 116k on it now.

My car is clearly bored, you should come and borrow it.

I’ve only put 7k miles on my IS in a little over two years

Sometimes I’m like, “maybe I should just sell it while I’m under 100k miles,” but then I realize the regret will be bigly -- also I won’t have a car.

I’ve come to the same conclusion in the last year. I rarely drive for fun anymore. The biggest reason being that I live in a city. Its a good 45-60 minutes just to get to a decent area. So going for a short after work drive turns into a 3 hour minimum .

I used to fill up the 3 every single week. Now it’s usually around once every two weeks, I like it a lot better that way. Or as seen visually:

I’ve been getting gas about once/month but basically what happens is that I drive the Lancer until empty then start taking the Miata until empty. Then I need to do both. Haha. I’ve actually been putting more miles on the Exocet than anything else.

Looking at the title to the M3, I realized I’ve driven it less than 1500 miles in a year. I will say, I was doing ~10k a year when I first got it.

I don’t drive that much, and it doesn’t bother me. Most people who drive 15,000 miles a year aren’t doing 15,000 “fun” miles.

My former GMT400 suburban had a 40 gallon tank. My 2017 F-150 only has the 26 gallon.

“I don’t drive much at all anymore, and that sort of gives me a sad.”
That’s not something to be really sad about. You’re not a slave to your car.
It also means your car will last longer and cost less to own.

My Honda Fit only has 10.8 gallons.
But in spite of the small size, I’m averaging ~600km between fuel stops.
So it’s not the size of your tank, but how well you use it
;-)

if the opportunity comes ill take you up on that :)

It basically means I don’t drive for fun anymore, which is sad (to me).

I put gas in all 3 cars a week ago... one is at a third left, the other at half left, and the last one at 3/4ths (my wife drives that one)
Edit: I work from home

I used to average about 5k/yr. I’ve already nearly got 10k on the 4Runner in 8 months. I bit above what I’d like, but i guess we’re using it, which is good. I also work from home, so none of that is commuting...well, he had a billet kid that I had to drive around until June, so I guess that was quite a bit of commuting.

Man, I do that in a month. Though about 2,000 of that is for work, plus another 1500 or so personal.

Similar shoes as you. At least as regards one car.
My SS has done less than 400 miles so far this year. How do I remember? Had to upd ate mile age for insurance just a month ago.
A nd I drive shitloads.
Hotel to work is almost always within 4-5 miles. So maybe 20-30 miles a day just back and forth ,s tepping out for lunch and again for di nner.
That b ei ng said, I occasiona ll y have a delayed flight, and I just drive the 400-500 miles back home. and so thats 1000 miles a weekend.
If I manage to fly back then the weekend is typically a rental car.

I drive 25-30k annually for work.

I fill this up every 1.5 weeks or so, provided I don’t take a day trip on the weekend.

My dad’s car has only consumed about 12 gallons in the year he's owned it, and four of those were when I borrowed it for a day. And he uses it almost every day. Not surprisingly it's a Volt, and he's got solar panels...

About the same, you just need to work on wasting more time on the road outside business hours.

This is my last full tank on the prime.
We do about 65kms a day commuting, sometimes 6 days a week. At one point earlier in the summer we were holding steady at 1.0L/100Km.

I visit the gas station so much in my Mustang GT that I think I need to start naming my favorite pumps.
- Ah , Sally is free to use today. She’s the quickest pump here, what a naughty girl she is.
-Darn it, have to use hard to reach Harry. The concrete pole always blocks access to Harry
- Then there’s Glenda the good witch pump. Every time I user her the rain holds off and I get to drop the top on the vert.

30 gallon tank for my 4x4 expedition

Once upon a time I was one of the top consumers of fuel at the marina when I worked there. Something like 1,000 gallons over the season - that’s a fill-up every 5.5 days from May through October @30 gallons each (it was a 37 gallon tank). Some days we’d fill up more than once, and a friend put tanks of gas in that boat, too. The only accounts that used more gas used their boats for teaching waterskiing, like at a camp.
While I do miss those days, it’s a bit excessive and not really sustainable for a few reasons.
